Hero’s Saga & WiZman’s World – Dropped

They were blocking my path to gaming pleasure. For the past few days I’ve been in a state of not wanting to play these games and at the same time not wanting to start anything else until they were done. Obviously something had to give.

Hero’s Saga: Made it to the last boss and fought him once. He’s a cheating bastard, but I outwaited him and he came down to fight me around turn 10. I beat him fair and square, and what did he do? He came back to life with his skills returned and his Valhalla Gauge refilled. Cheater! Cheater! I’d already lost a number of troops to his cheating ways, so I decided to grind a little, strategize a little better, and take him on again. That’s what I thought four days ago, and I haven’t been able to muster up the interest since. The last boss was kind enough to blab the rest of the story before recovering, and I don’t really care what happens to everyone at the end, so… *toss*

WiZman’s World: I don’t really want to drop this. I like it a lot. Sadly it’s time to admit to myself that I don’t have the energy to finish it. I’m about halfway through the last dungeon, and it’s one of those warp dungeons. The map is all but useless and it pains me to realize that I’m putting in all this trouble to go face the final boss just to get killed. Because I just know I’m going to be killed the first time no matter how much preparation I do. Get killed, waste several more hours re-preparing, possibly get killed again, finally kill the boss… I’m tired. I want to finish it, but not at the expense of that much time and effort.

I could put them merely on “hiatus” but then they’d still be there as a mental stumbling block, begging me to come back. No, we can’t just be friends. A clean break is best for us all. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with Persona 2.

    everybody praise innocent sin as an ubercool game regarding story and gameplay,i don’t.Gameplay is easy and story is childish. Not to mention the plot twist revelation were.. meh. its super cliche and you’ve mentioned it already. Personally i think its sequel (eternal punishment) is better. i dont cared much about the story but had fun grinding in that game

      I played a little bit of it, and the gameplay is the easiest I’ve encountered in an SMT/spin-off game so far. I don’t mind if the story is simple or cliched (thanks for not spoiling) as long as it doesn’t insult me or piss me off. I’m more worried about my strong dislike of all the characters I’ve met so far.

    If you get back to SRPGs after P2, check out Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume if you haven’t yet. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I liked the story and gameplay. The only downside is that they removed the voice acting from cutscenes in the english version, so you might want to consider playing the Japanese version.

      Good suggestion. I still haven’t played the original VP so I’d play that before CoP. Not sure if they’re related, but I like to play games in order. Voice acting doesn’t bother me either way so I’ll play the first version I can find.

    I only played arund 20% of VP2, then I started just watching the cutscenes to see how the game ends, as the story was really interesting. The gameplay was also quite good, but gosh, was the game confusing. They added more and more gameplay elements and at one point I wasn’t able to keep up with everything anymore. I also didn’t really like the jump’n’run’ish sidescroller movement… too stressy for poor lil me.

    My best friend on the other hand only played VP1 on the PSP. Gameplay-wise it’s basically the same, jump’n’run on the maps, turn-based battles after engaging an enemy. The game is timed tho and if you didn’t find suitable fighters for Odin until the Ragnarök starts it’s game over for you. He also said he enjoyed the story and characters and most parts of the gameplay, but it’s pretty challenging and totally confusing. …I’m not sure if he ever finished it or made it to an good end if he did.

    The stories are related, at least VP2 is to VP1, but everything gets explained, so there really is no need to play the earlier games.

    I think I tried the DS one, but I immediately dropped it again… I don’t remember why tho. Maybe I was waiting for a voices hack, not too sure. I might give that one a try again after I’m done going through all endings of Devil Survivor. Finally got myself to playing it again after not looking at it for a year.. or two.. ^^;

    It’s good that you dropped the games instead of putting them just away for now. If games start to frustrate you more than they give you joy, it’s time to part with them. Same goes for romantic involvement with boys as well. XD

    Just watch the ending of WiZman’s World online… Which you proably already did by now. :>

    I really like Innocent Sin – but I’ve only ever started the game 2 times, playing it on an emulator, I don’t remember why I stopped the first time, might have been because my HDD died. A while ago I started playing it again but then the PSP port got announced for a Western release, so I dropped it and now I’m waiting for the Vita (as I’ve got no PSP ;>). I also think that Eternal Punishment is better than Innocent Sin tho… mainly because being able to play a girl makes almost any game better to me. XD

      I watched my friend play a few hours of VP2:Silmeria. Visually it was too heavy on bloom for my liking, but the battles looked good. Unfortunately my friend got so obsessed with farming and crafting items that he burnt himself out and never finished it. I wonder if he’d let me borrow it…
